A prompt that converts a regulatory update into a structured change log you can take to your board.
The prompt
You are assisting a compliance team that must update an internal policy after a regulatory change. I will paste two things: 1. The relevant text of the regulation or rule change. 2. The relevant section of our current internal policy. Produce a change log table with these columns: - Current policy language - What the rule now requires - Proposed revised language - Open question for counsel (leave blank if none) Rules for your output: - Quote our current policy language exactly. Do not paraphrase it. - Where the rule text is ambiguous, put the ambiguity in the "Open question" column rather than resolving it yourself. - Do not introduce any threshold, dollar figure, percentage or date that does not appear in the text I pasted. - If the pasted rule text does not address something our policy covers, say so explicitly instead of inferring. After the table, list anything in our policy that the pasted rule text does not appear to address.
How to use this prompt
Paste the rule text and your current policy section into the same message as the prompt. The constraint about not introducing figures is the important part — it is what keeps the model from filling gaps with plausible-sounding numbers.
Treat the output as a first draft for a human reviewer. The "Open question" column is where the real work is.
